Sakura exchange program in science
Name: Lei Yang, master candidate from China University of Geosciences.
I am very glad to participate in the Sakura Science Program in 2018 together with other nine postgraduates from China. During the program, from the 31thOct. to the 9ndNov., I was impressed by the people and stories in Japan. I visited some laboratories and listened to some lecture sin National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK), Tokyo University, Kyoto University, Kyoto University Research Reactor Institute (KUR). I’d like to write down some stories and my feeling about my life during Sakura exchange program in science.
When we left for the Sakura-kan from the airport, I was really amazed at the weather and scenery. The first imperssion was the most unforgettable. The blue sky and the clouds in the sky were very charming and I could not help to take many photos to memorize the beauty. Dr.Brian met us at the Tsukuba station and his reception and patient guidance from made our stay pleasant. Then we checked into Sakura-kan.
The first dinner, Brian-san took us to a near restaurant to have the welcome party. We tasted some local special food. For the first, I tried raw fish and the flavor was even much better than I imagined.
On the 1st Nov., we mainly registered on the AIST computer system and Brian-san gave us some introductory lectures in the afternoon. Then it was free time and a group of us went outside for sightseeing by free bikes.
On the second day of our tour, we went to Toyko and visited Toyko university in the afternoon. The scenery in Toyko university was fabulous and I was lost in the beautiful landscape. Besides, we departed for sightseeing around Toyko and the landscape in the scenic area was truly wonderful. Here are some pictures in the following item.
On the 3rd Nov., it was a free day. We went for some easy shopping and visited the skytree in the evening. The scenery was so fascinating when we arrived at the hight of more than 400 meters. In the tower, we could see the fabulous night scene of Toyko. From that perspective, I experience the totally different visible feeling that I had never went through.
On the 5th and 6th Nov., we had arrived in Kyoto and there was a workshop in Kyoto university. The workshop lasted two days and some of us Chinese students gave some reports about their personal research. I learned a lot from the reports given by the professors and other students. From that workshop, I knew the disadvantages and advantages about my research. I’d like to communicate more with these fellows if there are any chance in the future. After the workshop and a very happy party, we went back to AIST and checked in Sakura-kan again.
Time flied very fast and we came to the lsat three days of the program. On the morning of 7th Nov., some professors and researchers from AIST gave us some lectures about their research fields, and answered our basic questions patiently. After that, we took AIST minibus to High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) to visit the accelerators and some other experimental equipments. After the tour, I saw the gap between Chinese and Japanese research. We should admit that there is a long way to go for the whole career of our native physical research. To commemorate the great moments, I put some photographs I took during the tour.
On the 8th Nov., we did lots of interesting things, such as visiting the laboratories, conducting some funny experiments and listening to some reports. These moments are really unforgettable.
On the evening of the 8th, Brian-san organized a farewell party for us Chinese students. During the dinner, we chatted freely and talked about the things that happened in the past few days. At the end of the party, Dr.Brian awarded each of us a certificate. When I got my certificate, I was fairly cordial about this award.
Meanwhile, I felt depressed because the total journey was almost done.
On the 9th Nov., we flied back to China and all the things went well. At last, what I want to say is that I’m really thankful for the opportunity provided by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and Sakura Science Program. Thanks for all the receivers in Japan and thank you for your considerate care during the Sakura Science Program. Most important of all, thank you, Brian-san! If there is a chance, I hope to visit Japan again in the future.
